Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful, evidence-based therapy designed to help individuals process and recover from traumatic experiences. Developed by Dr. Francine Shapiro, EMDR has been extensively researched and is recognised for its effectiveness in treating trauma, PTSD, anxiety, and other distressing life events.
EMDR therapy involves eight phases, including history taking, preparation, assessment, desensitization, installation, body scan, closure, and reevaluation. Through bilateral stimulation, such as guided eye movements, EMDR helps the brain process traumatic memories, reducing their emotional charge and vividness.
EMDR therapy offers numerous benefits, including the effective treatment of various types of trauma such as PTSD, childhood abuse, and anxiety. It can facilitate rapid results, often leading to significant improvements in a shorter time compared to traditional therapies. EMDR addresses both psychological and physiological aspects of trauma, promoting holistic healing.
At Laura Bailey Psychology, EMDR therapy can be conducted either in person at our comfortable space at The Centre - Combined Health or online via Zoom, providing flexible options to suit your needs.
